
Exploration of Symbols and Themes in the Novel "Speak"
The Grade 10 students have currently been reading the novel “Speak” as a part of the English Language Arts class, with a focus on the thematic unit called, 'Speaking-Out'. Over the past few weeks, the students have been reading the novel and participating in various student centered activities to gain a better understanding of the examples of symbolism and theme.
This lesson dived deeper into the specifics of the upcoming chapters. To supplement this, the students participated in a Chat Stations activity in which they rotated around the classroom while discussing and writing comments based on textual evidence and images related to the novel.
